During the early stages of planning for the Anglers 20th anniversary, it became clear that a special limited edition art should be a signature for this special event. Beth is famous for transforming flies on canvas in a way that is quite unique. The Roberts Drake pattern was chosen for its ubiquitous use on the Au Sable River System.
This fly was originated by Clarence Roberts, a former Michigan Conservation Officer who lived in Grayling. It is considered to be one of the most used flies on the river. It is fished in small sizes for sulphurs, in medium sizes for brown drakes and once again in huge sizes for hatching hex late June. It is a signature Au Sable fly pattern.
This print by Beth took over sixty hours to complete. It was made with fifty seven waxed based colored pencils on 180 lb Archival Strathmore Artist paper. There are nine different pencil colors alone used to draw the white deer hair parachute. The original drawing will be framed with three representative flies tied by Rusty Gates and offered at auction for the 20th Anglers Anniversary Celebration April 28th. It's absolutely drop dead gorgeous!
Prints can be ordered now using the form provided below. There will also be an order form in the next Riverwatch, which Anglers members will receive. To receive a low number, and we're talking single digits here, get your orders in soon!
